But that could be about to change with an inquiry into short-term renting and house-sharing recommending changes that will bring Airbnb in line with Uber — making it easier for you to open your doors to holiday-goers.
The push follows an 18-month-long NSW parliamentary inquiry into the short-term rental accommodation market and aims to pass a single set of statewide rules for all property owners using house-sharing websites like Airbnb.
