Combustible aluminium cladding on the exterior walls, which is made of polyethylene or PE, was a major cause of the Grenfell Tower fire in London, which has killed 80 people. Aluminium cladding has been used in across Australia during the property boom but regulators have failed to tackle it. A similar fire has occurred in Melbourne's Lacrosse building in Docklands in 2014.
